Free Reading Game for Learning the Short Vowel Sounds

Many reading programs require young learners to read long lists of words.  Now many students can be bribed to read down the columns with candy or prizes, but I have found that this is not necessary.  I take the same words and place them into card games or board games.  In fact, I have found that my students will often read 3 to 4 times as many words.  Squeals of joy have replaced whining complaints and many of my students can’t wait for our next session.

I wanted to share with you a free copy of one of my most popular board games, Puppy Party.  This game helps students to review the short vowel sounds.  If you scroll down through the page you will see the image and you can click the automatic, downloadable link below it.

Cheers, Erica
