Howdy from Jennifer!

Well HOWDY from the grand state of Texas! My name is Jennifer Smith-Sloane and I am a Math Specialist and Special Education Resource Teacher. I am so happy to join everyone here at A Special Sparkle and can't wait to share some wonderful things with you.

(Side Note: Every time I think about being a contributor to A Special Sparkle, I want to throw out my JAZZ HANDS!) :)

Professional: I have been teaching for ten years now and have enjoyed each area I have taught in for different reasons. I began in 5th grade-all subjects and after two years, I learned a lot about students at this age. I was given the opportunity to jump down to 2nd grade and I loved working with them. Teaching young students independence and monitoring their own learning was so fun. I still keep in contact with students from all three classes of 2nd Graders I had.

At that time, I moved to Austin to begin my doctorate at University of Texas and worked in a Functional Life Skills Class as an aide and when my position was let go, I decided it was time to move back. That January I came back to a small town in East Texas where I jumped in as an 8th Grade Math and Math Remediation Teacher. After 4 years working with 7th and 8th grade students, I left on medical leave last Fall and have been working with Texas Virtual Academy 6th-8th Grade Special Education Students ever since.

Who knows what the future holds for me!

Blogging: I have been blogging since my first year of teaching back in 2004. I never would have thought that over the years, the many different blogs, etc. I would be where I am now. I love having my little place on the internet to share things with others about my life and experiences as a teacher. Many times my blog is my saving grace and allows me to reflect on things that I never would have in the past and therefore teaches me more about my students and myself on a regular basis.

Personal: I am married to a wonderful man named Michael. We have been married since 2009 and are truly best friends. We currently live about 1/2 a mile away from our first home we lived in together. We have moved several times in our years together but I wouldn't trade it for anything. He is my rock, my support and the one that keeps me sane. Heck, he lives with a bunch of women (our roommate and our 2 dogs are both girls) and he still loves me! LOL!

All of this wraps up to me spending an insane amount of time on the computer (creating products to use in my classroom and beyond) as well as blogging, loving Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.) and just having a grand time living life.
